At Cedar Lodge, our goal is to invite guests to enjoy their time at our property and also in Texas Hill Country. We believe that this part of the country is worth showing off and gaining notoriety. So when guests approach us for a Cedar Lodge winery recommendation, we’re more than happy to give suggestions.
The Texas wine scene is quickly gaining attention around the country. No longer is Northern California staking its claim as the premier wine country. There are now a large number of vineyards and wineries popping up all along the Texas Hill Country landscape. With so many great places to choose from, it can be difficult to decide where to go.
That’s where we come in. While no expert wine connoisseurs or sommeliers, we pay close attention to the local wineries and the feedback they receive from past visitors. This weeks Cedar Lodge winery recommendation is for Perissos Vineyard and Winery.
This Texas Hill Country favorite is our first suggestion for a variety of reasons. For starters, it’s less than a 20 minute drive from Cedar Lodge, making it extremely convenient. However, the location is simply an added bonus because we would travel a lot farther to check this place out.
All of their wines are made from Texas grown fruit, so their goal at capturing the essence of Texas wine is very apparent. While a majority of this fruit is grown on property, they also work with other Texas growers to enhance the diversity and variety of their wines.
Interestingly enough, this Cedar Lodge winery recommendation is unique to us because of the decomposed granite soil they use. While granite outcroppings laden the area, there aren’t any other wineries using this type of soil to grow their fruit. They have even done extensive research to determine which grapes would grow best in this type of soil.
Their dedication to the craft of winemaking is what makes Perissos such a special vineyard and winery. As they state on their website, “we consider ourselves gardeners and stewards of the land.” Of this stewardship, they take great pride of sustainably growing their crops and keeping the land fertile.
For your tasting pleasure, you’ll have the ability to try Aglianico, Tempranillo, Viognier, Syrah and Petite Sirah. This family owned and operated vineyard and winery offers a distinctly wonderful experience for all who visit. So if you find yourself staying with us, Perissos Vineyard and Winery is one of our favorite Cedar Lodge winery recommendations.
